Sam Bankman-Fried, the disgraced crypto mogul, is now subject to a restriction that prevents him from contacting FTX and Alameda employees or using encrypted communications. This measure was put into place following claims that he contacted a potential witness via the encrypted messaging platform Signal. A trial is scheduled for October, where Bankman-Fried faces 8 financial crimes in connection with the collapse of the exchange. In addition to this restriction, he is also prohibited from accessing funds or digital assets belonging to FTX and Alameda. His legal team argued the new bail modification is “overbroad” and “unworkable”, but Judge Kaplan found it was “clearly and convincingly sufficient”.
